A little look at our Gig nights this Michaelmas!

We have had a great term showcasing up-and-coming music from across the university’s popular music scene. Bands this term have ranged from blues, to rock, to jazz, to indie.

We started our series in The Hidden Rooms, in partnership with JazzSoc, where we presented Emma Jazz (Emmanuel), and members from CUJO (Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra). They played in a packed-out venue, playing jazz-fusion classics, and hosting a great jam session to finish the night.

We then moved to Lucy Cavendish College for a more intimate event, in their café & bar, where we were delighted by performances by Greta Bea Thompson and Enrique Hernandez. We also hosted an open mic to bring forward performers from across the university.

Our final gig night of Michaelmas brought some of the university’s rock and alternative talent to Wolfson College. This late-night gig displayed the range of rock genres here in the University with performances from post punk band: Dead Romantics, May ball regulars: KEEPOFFTHEGRASS, and recent Advanced Popular Performance Scheme recipient: András Droppa.

We have had a great Michaelmas of popular music here at the Centre for Music Performance and look forward to providing a platform for more student performers next term. All our Gig Nights will be advertised on our website and student hub
