Congratulations to alumni Dr Mark Almond and Helen Charlston!

Mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston’s album, Battle Cry: She Speaks (Delphian records), has won the concept album category of the Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2023!

Lindsay Kemp (Gramophone Magazine) wrote, “British mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston has constructed a programme that homes in on emotional mistreatment of some familiar females with such intent that the result seems an urgent and forceful statement – a battle cry indeed – on their behalf.”

Helen is a graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, and was a member of the Sir Arthur Bliss Lieder Scheme.

Dr Mark Almond has been appointed Principal Horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, having previously worked as associate principal horn of the San Francisco Symphony, co-principal horn of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and third horn of the Philharmonia Orchestra, London.
