Trumpington Street Orchestra (TSO)

Trumpington Street Orchestra (TSO) in its modern form was founded in 2017 as the Pembroke, Peterhouse, and Downing Orchestra, but later expanded to include St Catharine’s in 2018. Now revived after the pandemic, TSO aims to give student musicians of all abilities from all over Cambridge an opportunity to experience playing in an orchestra, in a friendly and low-pressure setting. TSO normally rehearses weekly (2 hours on termtime Tuesday evenings), and puts on a concert at the end of Michaelmas and Lent Terms.

TSO has always aimed to explore fun and accessible repertoire, and this year we set ourselves a goal of incorporating music by underrepresented composers. Our most recent concert on 4th March 2023 was put on in the spirit of International Women’s Day, where we performed Cecile Chaminade’s Flute Concertino and Emilie Mayer’s Symphony no. 2, along with selections from Bizet’s Carmen Suites.
