Cambridge University Samulnori Society

The Cambridge University Samulnori Society is dedicated to the promotion of Samulnori, a Korean percussive art genre rooted in p’ungmul (farmers’ band music). It is performed by four different instruments (small gong – kk’waengwari, hourglass drum – janggo, barrel drum – buk and big gong -jing). Samulnori translates into ‘four things play’ and has gained rapid popularity and recognition both within Korea and internationally since the late 1970s.

Formed in Michaelmas 2021/2022, the Cambridge University Samulnori Society promotes the understanding and appreciation of Samulnori.  We provide members with regular opportunities to learn and perform Samulnori repertoire with expert practitioners from all over the world. We hold regular rehearsals Robinson College during term time.

Cambridge University Samulnori Society recruits new members on a yearly basis.
