Nico Muhly Composer in Residence | Evensong and Premiere

The Choir of Sidney Sussex would like to warmly welcome you to a special service of evensong on Friday 14th June in the Chapel at the slightly earlier time of 6pm.

We’ll be premiering a newly commissioned set of Canticles by Composer in Residence, Nico Muhly – the ‘Short Service’ for Sidney Sussex. Indeed, the service will consist entirely of music composed for Sidney by Nico during his residency, including ‘Above the Heavens’, an anthem commissioned for the inauguration of the Master, Professor Martin Burton, in October 2023.

The service will be followed by a drinks reception and informal chat with Nico and the Choir in the Master’s Lodge. This is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring composers, music students and anyone interested in choral music to hear about Nico’s composition process and speak directly to him about his life as a composer. Nico is a prolific contemporary classical composer who has worked with many notable musicians and ensembles across genres. He has had two operas commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera, released nine studio albums, composed for film and TV, and worked with artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Björk and Phillip Glass.

The service and drinks reception are open to all! Please do join us in Sidney Sussex College Chapel at 6pm on Friday 14th June for what promises to be a really special service.
