Young rising star saxophonist Emma Rawicz has recently turned her formidable talents to the world of big band and for this special show – the finale of this year’s Cambridge Jazz Festival – she joins forces with the renowned Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra.  Composition has always been a core part of Emma’s identity, and she now showcases her distinctive writing within the big band setting.

Expect to hear captivating, electrifying arrangements of Emma’s music, ranging from edgy, up tempo originals through joyful Afro-Cuban inspired grooves to moving ballads, as well as the premiere of a new composition commissioned by Cambridge Jazz Festival.  Emma will not be putting the sax down for this gig though, and will feature as a soloist as well as directing the band.

Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra (CUJO) is the University’s premier big band which performs throughout the year in the top Cambridge jazz venues and further afield. They have worked with musicians including Yazz Ahmed, Mads Mathias, Steve Waterman, Stan Sulzmann, Ian Shaw and Liane Carroll, touring to Budapest, Prague, Istanbul and Bordeaux. You can follow the CUJO Facebook page here
