Four Cambridge student bands – Temor, Quasar, East Street on a Tit, and Soft Crunchy Landing – go head to head as finalists in the University’s band competition, Take It to the Bridge. They’ll be competing for a truly brilliant prize: the opportunity to perform on the mainstage at the Cambridge Club Festival as part of a lineup which also includes the likes of Chaka Khan and Jessie Ware. Witness an intense showdown as they vie for the top spot! This year’s judging panel includes Sonita Alleyne OBE (Master of Jesus College and Chair of the Centre for Music Performance), Matt Fincham (Music Editor, BBC Radio 1) and Frazer Robinson (Head of Programming, Cambridge Club Festival) – and the judges’ decision will be informed by an audience vote.

The bands, in their own words:
East Street on a Tit
“East Street on a Tit is a Cambridge-based quintet influenced by jazz, funk and soul music. They formed in Lent 2023 and quickly enjoyed collaborating together, experimenting with both their own compositions and covers of great classics. They went on to perform at various May Balls and are really excited to be performing at Take it to the Bridge.”
Quasar
“Quasar has rapidly become a Cambridge favourite, boasting numerous jazz and R&B sounds, while playing everyone’s favourite hip-hop covers. The band, founded on a solid rhythm section and sax, are fronted by an experienced rap duo and a supremely accomplished lead singer.
“Their hip-hop spins on jazz standards and live renditions of classic hip-hop samples from icons such as like Lauryn Hill and Nas, through to modern-day greats like Kendrick and JAY-Z, get the crowd jumping and bopping heads without fail.
“Playing at numerous high-profile gigs throughout the last three years, headlining sold-out events such as Hip-Hop Society’s ‘Hip-Hop After Dark’, Clare Jazz’s Ents nights and playing at numerous May-Balls (opening for Rudimental in 2022 and Kelis in 2023) are just some of Quasar’s recent achievements.”
Temor
“Temor is a fresh new talent in the UK jazz scene based in Cambridge. Comprising of Finlay Waugh (trumpet), Judah Daniels (piano), Gabriel Arpino (double bass) and Wynn Tasker (drums), their music is a blend of classic jazz with groove, drawing on heavy Classical and Latin-American influences. Having made a name for themselves in Cambridge, the group recently played their first London gig at Next Door Records.”
Soft Crunchy Landing
“Soft Crunchy Landing was born in the primordial and heady broth of people, alcohol and music which so famously characterised late 2017. The nine-piece band resuscitates classic pop, funk and soul songs through original arrangements and mashups, which will leave you gasping for breath. Combining this electric base with lively choreography and stank face solos, the band can get even the dullest audience of lawyers up and dancing.
“The band mainly struts its stuff on the Cambridge music scene, from after formal parties to life-shortening May Week tours. In more recent times, the band has expanded to weddings across the country, and even two international gigs. And herein lies the spirit of the band: be it on top of a French mountain, on the shores of Lake Constance or in a freezing quagmire in England, they give a performance that is out of this world.
“Soft Crunchy Landing is more than a band. It is a mystery that has stymied even the drunkest of Cambridge undergraduates: how can something so sweetly soft remain so deliciously crunchy? Find out for yourselves at Take it to the Bridge.”
