The University is seeking to appoint two student members of the Music Performance Committee, which oversees the work of the Centre for Music Performance, for the 2024-25 academic year. The successful candidates will ensure students’ views are represented on the committee and will also co-chair the CMP’s student forum, which places students’ priorities at the heart of the Centre’s planning and delivery.

This is a fantastic opportunity to ensure students’ views are heard as we shape the future of music at Cambridge, to find out more about how the University operates, and to develop skills which are highly sought-after by employers through membership of a professionally run board.  The Committee’s other members include senior figures from the music industry and from within the University.  Reflecting the importance of the role, the appointment will be made by the University’s General Board on the recommendation of the Committee’s chair, Sonita Alleyne OBE (Master of Jesus College).

The responsibilities of the two student committee members include:

  • Attending Committee meetings (normally 3 meetings per year plus a longer away day) and keeping in touch with the Centre’s Director between meetings
  • Representing students and student interests on the Committee
  • Co-chairing CMP Forum meetings bringing together representatives of musical ensembles and societies from across the University, and updating the Music Performance Committee on key issues which arise from these Forum meetings
  • Contributing to the planning of future CMP activities
  • Championing the Centre for Music Performance on student media
  • Taking on other tasks which suit your strengths and ambitions and the amount of time which you are able to dedicate to the role.

To be eligible to apply, you will need to be a registered student or an elected officer of the University of Cambridge Students’ Union for the 2024-25 academic year.

To apply, please email a copy of your CV and a covering letter detailing your interest in the role and outlining what you would be looking to offer as a member of the Music Performance Committee to by 9am on 20 June.

Interviews will be held online between 2pm and 4pm on 25 June with the Committee’s chair Sonita Alleyne OBE (Master of Jesus College) and CMP Director Simon Fairclough. Candidates should hold this date in their diaries.
