Verdi Messa da Requiem, Op.45
The mighty Cambridge University Symphony Chorus presents Verdi’s colossal Messa da Requiem in the stunning setting of Ely Cathedral. A wonder of medieval engineering, the exuberantly decorated cathedral is the perfect setting for this most grand, incredibly dramatic and operatic requiem. Richard Wilberforce conducts, and the chorus is joined by East Anglia Chamber Orchestra, the choirs of Pembroke and Girton Colleges, soprano Philippa Boyle, contralto Jess Dandy, tenor David Junghoon Kim, and bass Matthew Rose.
Composed in memory of writer and humanist Alessandro Manzoni, Verdi’s operatic approach to the sacred mass text is a masterpiece.
